English Midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain currently plays for the English Premier League club Liverpool besides regularly appearing for the England national football team since 2012. The world noticed him for the first time during season 2010-11 when he displayed some amazing skills with Southampton at the age of just 17. Chamberlain then moved to Arsenal in August 2010 and scored twice in his first three matches with the club. Due to his amazing performance with Southampton, Chamberlain was selected for the English U-21 team. He earned 198 caps with the Gunners while scoring 20 total goals in all competitions. Chamberlain was also one of the key players to make Arsenal won the FA Cup twice. He moved to Liverpool in August 2017. Chamberlain made his debut appearance for the English team against Norway in 2012. He became the second youngest player ever to represent England after he was called up for the UEFA Euro 2012 squad followed by his call-up for 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Chamberlain was born in Portsmouth, Hampshire, and completed his education from the St John’s College in Southsea, Portsmouth. Growing up as an Arsenal fan, he joined the Southampton youth Academy at the age of just seven and never stopped since then.
Chamberlain made his first-team debut for Southampton in a match against Huddersfield Town on 2nd March 2010 at the age of just 16 years 199 days thus becoming the second youngest appearance maker of the club. He then made his first competitive start in the first round of the League Cup match against Bournemouth on 10th August 2010, and scored his first goal in the very same match. Chamberlain signed his first professional contract for three years with Southampton on 20th August 2010. He then made his league debut against Rochdale on 4th September 2010 followed by his first league goal for the club against Oldham Athletic on 23rd October 2010.
Chamberlain signed a contract with English Premier League club Arsenal on 8th August 2011 with a total fee of £12 million which could rise to £15 million after add-ons. He made his debut for the Gunners against Manchester United on 28th August 2011 followed by his debut goal in a League Cup match against Shrewsbury Town on 20th September 2011. Chamberlain scored his first UEFA Champions League goal against Greek team Olympiacos on 28th September 2011. He then made his first premier league start against Manchester United on 22nd January 2012 at the Emirates Stadium.
Chamberlain signed a contract extension with Arsenal on 19th December 2012 along with his teammate Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere, Kieran Gibbs and Carl Jenkinson. He then helped Arsenal defeating Manchester City in the 2014 FA Community Shield at the Wembley Stadium. His most notable accolades came for Arsenal when he received the man of the Match Award against Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final on 23rd April 2017.
Chamberlain signed a five-year contract with Liverpool for a total fee of £35 million on 31st August 2017, and made his debut for the club against Manchester City on 9th September 2017. He then scored his first goal for Liverpool in a UEFA Champions League victory over Maribor on 17th October 2017. Chamberlain scored his first English Premier League goal for the Reds in a 4–1 victory over West Ham United on 4th November 2017.
Chamberlain made his debut for the English U-18 side against Poland at the Adams Park ground on 16th November 2010 followed by his first match for the U-21 squad against Azerbaijan on 1st September 2011. He was then first called up for the senior 23-man team for the UEFA Euro 2012 on 16th May 2012. Chamberlain made his debut for the English senior team in a Euro warm-up match against Norway on 26th May 2012. He then made his first start for the England team in a match against Belgium at Wembley Stadium on 2nd June 2012. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain made his first competitive debut for England in the opening match of UEFA Euro 2012 against France on 11th June 2012. He scored his first senior goal for the English team against San Marino on 12th October 2012.
Chamberlain is the son of Mark Chamberlain who played for the England football team and also for several Premier League clubs such as Stoke City and Portsmouth. Neville Chamberlain, Alex’s uncle, was also a professional football star who played for Stoke City. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s brother Christian is a professional footballer just like his brother and currently plays for Portsmouth. He nearly joined rugby union when he had a trial offer with London Irish during his college days at St John’s College, Portsmouth. Besides Football, Chamberlain is an avid cricket fan and plays for the south east Hampshire as a wicketkeeper-batsman. It was first revealed by the media in February 2017 that he is dating Perrie Edwards who is the lead singer of all-girl music group called “Little Mix”.
Chamberlain’s current net worth is estimated to be around $185 million. Besides his $3.2 million yearly salary from Liverpool, the Englishman also owns numerous smart stocks and property holdings. Chamberlain currently has an endorsement deal with ‘CoverGirl cosmetics’. He owns the “Fat Oxlade-Chamberlain Burger” chain in London. Chamberlain also owns the “Portsmouth Angels” football team. Recently he launched his own Vodka brand called ‘Pure Wonderoxlade-Chamberlain – England’. Besides, he also owns a perfume and fashion line called ‘Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain Seduction’. His current footballing market value stands at $30 million.
Chamberlain helped Southampton to become the runners-up of the Football League One in season 2010-11 and for that he was inducted in the PFA League One Team of the Year the very same season. He also helped Arsenal to achieve the trophies of FA Cup in 2014-15 season and again in 2016-17 season. Chamberlain held the FA Community Shield thrice till now with Arsenal, in 2014, 2015 and in 2017.
