He gave some amazing performances for the U-17s as an Argentine, and several clubs became desperate to rope him in. He had made some rare appearances with the club that he played for at that time. He was a youth prodigy, and Boca wanted to make a profit from him. So, they had negotiations with Liverpool, and the defender agreed to be loaned out for a deal of 18 months in November 2006, as his loan period began in January.

In July 2010, when he was the only available senior left back in the club, there was an agreement for him to sign with Fiorentina, even though the contract fell through.

In August 2010, he signed with Galatasaray on loan deal of one year with the option to transfer on a permanent basis within the following year in the end of June, after the expiration of the deal. There was a rumour at this point that Insúa might return to Liverpool in the transfer window of January after coach Gheorghe Hagi said that he didn’t require loaned players in his team, and Insúa had allegedly showed his desire to play with the new coach of Liverpool, Kenny Dalglish. Insúa went back to Liverpool for the pre-season training after the loan period. He was barred from entering China because of passport reasons, and Insua had to rejoin the squad of Liverpool in Malaysia.
