Girona Futbol Club hosts their home matches at the Estadi Montilivi and recently been promoted at the end of 2016-17 football season. The club was founded in 1930 and since then they spent 3 seasons in Categorías Regionales, 44 seasons in Tercera División, 13 seasons in Segunda División B and 21 seasons in Segunda División. After finishing the Segunda División 2016-17 in the second place of the chart, Girona FC earned the qualification to participate in the 2017-18 season of the Spanish La Liga. 44.3% ownership of the club recently been purchased by the City Football Group and another 44.3% was held by Girona Football Group as of August 2017.
Pablo Machín served as the manager of the club since 2014, and under his guidance Girona FC did pretty well in the second division and earned their promotion. Surprisingly at the start of 2017-18 season, the club has managed to defeat the EPL club Manchester City. And now with full of confidence, they will surely try to put their mark on the La Liga table this season.
