Alba started his footballing journey with his native club Hospitalense in 1996. The following year, he joined ‘La Masia’ youth academy of Barcelona and started developing his skills. In 2005, Barcelona released him for being deemed too small, and he joined the neighbourhood club Cornellà. He took two years of training at Cornellà and finally joined La Liga side Valencia in 2007. Shortly after his joining, he earned his promotion to the Valencia B team and helped the side to gain promotion from Tercera División in the 2007–08 season.
