Adrien Silva is a professional footballer who represents the national team of Portugal as the central midfielder, besides playing for English club Leicester City.

Adrien has played for Sporting CP for the most part of his career, before joining Leicester City. He debuted in the first team when he was 18 years of age, and played for Maccabi Haifa and Académica on loan, helping to win the Taça de Portugal with Académica besides earning the same honour with the main club of Sporting CP, with whom he scored 39 goals in 237 matches. With noteworthy dribbling and passing qualities, Silva succeeded in 46 caps for the youth categories of the national team of Portugal. He debuted as a senior in 2014, and represented Portugal in Euro 2016, helping his team to win the tournament.

Adrien started his career in football at FC Girondins de Bordeaux in France, when he was only 10 years of age. However, after a year, his father, an aeronautics professional, had to return to Portugal with the family who settled in Arcos de Valdevez. Adrien played with the local club, Associação Recreativa e Cultural de Paçô, for two seasons. This team later started hosting the Torneio A.R.C.Paçô–Adrien Silva tournament in Adrien’s honour every June.

During his stint of six years with the academy of Sporting, Silva earned seven titles. Four of them were national championships, and three were regional ones. At 15 years of age, Silva was hunted by Chelsea, and he later travelled to London to start his training at the facilities of the English club. But this plan fell through when Sporting decided to file a complaint against the team with FIFA in January 2005.

Silva’s fist professional contract was signed in March 2007, in the form of a deal of five years with Sporting. He spent two months as a member of the reserve team, after which he received the official promotion to the main squad in July, by coach Paulo Bento, right before the upcoming campaign. He debuted in Primeira Liga in August, and appeared in a 4–1 victory over Académica de Coimbra in December, after remaining unused in many league and European games. His first professional start and debut was in a 3–0 Champions League win over FC Dynamo Kyiv. Days later, his first league start happened in a 2–1 victory at C.S. Marítimo.

Silva played in round-of-32 of Sporting in both legs against Bolton Wanderers during the UEFA Cup in 2007–08. His first match was in November 2008 in a match that ended in a 1–0 victory over Associação Naval 1º de Maio. In 2009–10, Silva’s official debut in the group stage game of UEFA Europa League against Hertha BSC of Germany. He scored his debutant goal in a match-winning game ending in 1–0. He saw the red card after he got booked twice. During a Lisbon derby in November 2009, which resulted in a goalless draw, he hit the headlines for covering the biggest distance as a Sporting footballer, travelling more than 10,049 m during the match. This led manager Carlos Carvalhal to make him start in 13 out of 15 matches for the team. However, during that season, Sporting went deteriorated to the fourth position, and Silva was blamed.

Silva, though born in France, was selected to join Portugal, and got associated with Portugal since 2004, representing the team at youth levels. With U-16, he played in Tournoi du Val-de-Marne in three group stage games. But, His unauthorized training at Chelsea soon got revealed, leading to his suspension by Portuguese Football Federation. He represented regularly the U-17 group in the qualification of UEFA European Championship 2007.

In January 2007, it was declared by Portuguese Federation that Silva would participate in the U-18 of Meridian Cup 2007 as the only representative of Portugal, and he announced his pride in this.
