Right after winning the career’s 5^th Ballon d’Or few weeks ago Cristiano Ronaldo bagged another award. He is named as the best player of 2017 in the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai on Thursday night. Sadly he was not able to attend the ceremony in person, but he congratulated the fans and the organizers through video message for the awards and also expressed his delight for finishing above Barcelona’s talisman Lionel Messi and Paris Saint-Germain’s Neymar to win the best player award. The Globe Soccer Award for being the best player of 2017 was presented to him by the Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero last night.

After being named as the best player, he said “I have a lot of time for the awards. For me it is a special moment and I am very happy. Thanks to my colleagues, trainer and to Real Madrid. It was an incredible year.” While receiving the award from the Juve legend, he also talked about why he turned down the offer from the Italian giant and opted for Manchester United instead. Cristiano Ronaldo gave tribute to his friend and guide Jorge Mendes for the decision and said “Many clubs were interested in me, but the key man as always was Jorge Mendes” and added “He has always guided me in the right direction. Of course, I remember that he talked also about Juventus, and I was happy because they are an extraordinary club.”

While talking about his first big move from his country he expressed that several giant and rich football clubs contacted him to get him to their squad. But Mendes was the man who guided Cristiano to choose the best club. Cristiano, while talking about Mendes, said “He also talked about Real Madrid, Manchester United and many others. But the club that offered me the best conditions was United. It was a dream because as a kid I always wanted to play in the Premier League.” Cristiano Ronaldo also credited his ex-squad of Red Devils and their coach and said “United gave me this opportunity and for that I have to thank Sir Alex Ferguson and obviously Jorge helped me to arrive there.”

Besides Cristiano Ronaldo, this year’s Real Madrid squad was also named as the best team of the year for winning five trophies in last 12 month. Zinedine Zidane also named as the best coach of 2017 in the Globe Soccer Award. Zidane, after receiving the award, has said “I want to say thank you, I am representing the club and the president, it is an honour for me and the club and it shows that things are functioning.” He stated “All the players are incredible and I congratulate all of them, this is for them and not me” and added “Thanks also to the other coaches, I have won a lot but it is a difficult job.”
