Eder is a professional football player who represents the national team of Portugal and also plays for Lokomotiv Moscow, a Russian club, being loaned out to the team from Lille. He plays as a forward.

Eder Biography

Eder began his professional career with Académica in 2008, and joined Braga after four years. Over a period of seven seasons after this, he gathered a total of 38 goals in 143 matches of Primeira Liga. He has been a member of the Portuguese team since 2012, representing the country at World Cup 2014 and Euro 2016, and helping to win the latter, though he scored only one goal in the final.

Eder Early Football Career

Eder’s early football career began at Coimbra District’s Associação Desportiva e Cultural da Adémia at the age of 11, after his move to Portugal. After staying associated with the team from 1999 till 2006, he debuted as a senior with Oliveira do Hospital in 2006, and the very same year, he joined the third division club Tourizense, which was also Académica de Coimbra’s farm team.

Eder debuted at Primeira Liga with Académica in 2008, in a game that resulted in a 0–1 loss for his team to Estrela da Amadora. His first goal for his club was an equalizer in a match against Associação Naval 1º de Maio, which eventually ended in a 3-1 win for Eder’s team. In May 2010, during a match against Nacional, Eder made a goal that looked like the winning shot, but eventually, the opponents scored an equalizer in the last minute, and the match ended at 3-3. The next year, in September, during a game against Nacional, he made a brace in a 4–0 result, and his season ended with 5 goals in 16 games; he helped his club bag the first Portuguese Cup title since 1939, though his contributions were limited to the first rounds only, as he received a suspension by his team authorities as he did not report to training for many weeks, and questions about his interest in the team began to rise.

In the summer of 2012, Eder got associated with Braga with a contract period of four years. He officially debuted for the new team in September in a match that ended in a 0–2 loss at Pacos de Ferreira. Later that month, he but scored twice and his team won over Rio Ave with a score of 4–1. He also contributed to a 4–4 draw with Olhanense with one goal. In November 2012, during Taça de Portugal’s fifth round, Eder scored the winning goal, as Braga winning over Porto with a score of 2–1, and helping the team to book a spot in the quarter-finals.

In January 2013, during a league game against Moreirense, he scored the only goal. In February, he scored in both halves of a local derby, with Vitória de Guimarães as the opponent, as his team earned a 3–2 victory. His ligament tear kept him out for the rest of the season. During the final match of the domestic cup in May 2015, he opened the book with a penalty shot against Sporting, but he was not successful during the penalty shootout, and Braga had an eventual loss.

Eder Swansea City/Lille Career

In June 2015, Swansea City agreed to pay £5 million to bring Eder to the Premier League for a deal of three years. He debuted in August, and played in a 2–2 draw at Chelsea. After going goalless for 15 matches for Swans, he was loaned to the French team Lille for the rest of the season. He debuted in February 2016 in the halftime of a 1–0 home victory over Stade Malherbe Caen. He made his first goal after four days in the 1–1 draw with Stade Rennais.

In April 2016, he played in Coupe de la Ligue final, which resulted in a loss of 1–2 to Paris Saint-Germain. In May, after helping the Swans in qualifying to Europa League by finishing fifth, he became a permanent member of the team by signing a contract of four years. In March 2017, he scored the last goal in the fourth minute into the extra time after the 90 min, in a 2–1 away win in the rough-of-16 against Bergerac Périgord. In August 2017, he was loaned to Lokomotiv Moscow of Russian Premier League.

Born in Africa and brought up in Portugal, Eder decided to play for the national team of Portugal. After his displays at Braga impressed the soccer fraternity, he received his call to join Portugal in August 2012 in the qualifiers of World Cup 2014 for a game against Luxembourg, but did not get used in the 2–1 win in September. He debuted within four days in the same tournament, in a 3–0 win over Azerbaijan.

In May 2014, he was included in the 23-man squad for the final of the tournament. He debuted in the in June, in a 0–4 loss in the group against Germany. He was seen during the second match, which ended in a 2–2 tie with the US. His first goal for the team was scored during the 18th cap, in a friendly win over Italy, and it was the only goal in the match. He was picked by Fernando Santos for the squad of his Euro 2016 as he played in three matches and scored the single goal of the final to help his team beat France.

Eder was born as Ederzito António Macedo Lopes, Bissau of Guinea-Bissau, on the coast of West Africa. His father’s name is Filomeno Antonio Lopes. As a child, he moved to Portugal before starting his youth career.
