La Liga To Reach Indian Fans, says president Javier Tebas

La Liga president Javier Tebas recently said in an interview that the Spanish league is trying to get nearer to India, to reach the passionate fans of the sport and of Spanish football. The football scene in India may not be strong enough for the footballers to be accepted in the elite clubs of Spain, but the Spanish league is, however, making an effort to reach Indian fans, as mentioned by league president Javier Tebas.

While speaking to Sportstar, Tebas mentioned that the authorities are trying in all possible ways to get nearer to the Indian audience. Recently, La Liga saw an exponential increase n their viewership, after they altered the timings of the matches to suit the Asian viewers, especially the Indians. As a result of this, India immediately became one of their prime viewership destinations.

The TV data which is available with the La Liga authorities suggest that the growth in the viewership has been two-fold in India, in comparison to the viewership that they received when they had the original timings of kick-off. This means that they have noticed an enormous rise of around 300% in terms of viewers of the Spanish League in Indian, according to Tebas.

He further explained that they have a purpose behind initiating internationalise La Liga, with the plan to outdo Premier League’s official Facebook page in terms of the number of followers. The growth that they have recently witnessed has left them quite surprised. And, they have noticed the huge popularity of the sport and the Spanish League in India, which puts the country on their radar.

Tebas added that the league is making different moves in India, like opening an office in the country, and arranging events of match-viewing, with 18,000 people in Delhi enjoying the most recent El Clasico on 23rd December 23. Besides, they are also reaching out to various schools for the establishment of brand La Liga, and are planning Indian teams to perform in Spain.
