English footballer Raheem Sterling currently plays as a midfielder for the England national football team besides appearing regularly for the Premier League club Manchester City. He was named as the best under-21 player of Europe and received the Golden Boy award in 2014. He was also named as the most valuable young player in Europe in a professional study by Soccerex with an estimated value of nearly €49 million. After being born in Jamaica, Sterling’s family moved to London when he was just five years old.

As a five-year-old kid, Sterling started his football journey with Queens Park Rangers and later joined the EPL club Liverpool in 2010. He received £49 million transfer fee from Manchester City in July 2015 which is the highest transfer fee ever paid for an English footballer. He is currently a regular of the England team since November 2012, and also represented the U-16, U-17, U-19 and U-21 squad of England in the past. Sterling was an integral part of the squad that represented England in the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Sterling started his journey with Queens Park Rangers at the age of five, and signed a contract with Liverpool’s Youth Academy System for an initial fee of £600,000 in February 2010. Rafael Benítez first spotted his talent and offered upto £5 million to him depending on how many appearances he could make for the youth’s first team. Sterling scored his first goal for the Liverpool youth team in a friendly against Hibernian. He then made his debut at the Premier Academy League against Aston Villa. Sterling scored an astounding five-goal in a match against Southend United on 14th February 2011.
Sterling made his senior Liverpool squad debut against Wigan Athletic on 24th March 2012 at the age of just 17 years and 107 days. He made his European debut in a UEFA Europa league qualifying match against Gomel in August 2012 and scored his first goal in a friendly against Bayer Leverkusen a week later. He was included in the starting squad for the first time in a UEFA Europa League qualifying match against Hearts on 23rd August 2012. Sterling made his first start in the Premier League against Manchester City at Anfield on 27th. He then scored his first competitive goal against Reading on 20th October 2012. Due to his amazing performance in 2012, Liverpool offered him a contract extension which he signed on 21st December 2012.
Sterling scored his first Premier League goal against Norwich City on 4th December 2013. After his astonishing performance in April 2014, he was named Liverpool Chartered Player of the Month. Sterling also received the Liverpool’s Young Player of the Year for season 2013-14. He then made his UEFA Champions League debut against Bulgarian team Ludogorets Razgrad on 16th September 2014 at Anfield. Sterling made his 100th appearances for the Reds on 14th December 2014 in a match against Manchester United at Old Trafford. He was then again named as the Liverpool’s Young Player of the Season second times in a row.
Sterling signed a five-year contract with one of the Premier League champions Manchester City on 14th July 2015. The transfer became one of the costliest transfers of all time after City agreed to pay him an initial £44 million transfer fee along with £5 million worth of add-ons. Sterling made his debut for the club in a 2015 International Champions Cup match against AS Roma on 21st July 2015. He then made his competitive debut for City against West Bromwich Albion on 10th August 2015. Sterling scored his first competitive goal against Watford on 30th August at the City of Manchester Stadium. He scored his first professional hat-trick on 17th October 2015 against Bournemouth. Sterling then made his UEFA Champions League debut against Spanish side Sevilla on 3rd November 2015. After scoring 2 goals and an assist in three matches, he was named Premier League Player of the Month for August 2016.
Sterling made his debut for the England U-16 team in a match against Northern Ireland in November 2009 and was selected for the 2011 U-17 World Cup shortly after. He scored his debut U-17 World Cup goal against Rwanda in Pachuca in 2011. Sterling then included in the 23-men squad for the 2014 World Cup qualifying match against Ukraine on 10th September 2012, but remained unused. He then made his senior team debut for England in a friendly against Sweden on 14th November 2012. He earned the Man of The Match award for the first time in a friendly match against Denmark at Wembley Stadium on 5th March 2014.
He was named in the 23-man English squad to represent the nation in the 2014 FIFA World Cup on 12th May 2014. Sterling made his first start for England in the first group stage match of 2014 FIFA World Cup against Italy on 14th June 2014. Despite England losing the game, Sterling was named England’s best performing player by the BBC. He scored his first competitive senior international goal for England in a UEFA Euro 2016 qualifying match against Lithuania on 27th March 2015 at Wembley Stadium.
Born in Maverley district of Kingston, Sterling spent his early days in Jamaica. He then immigrated to London with his mother Nadine at the age of just five. Sterling completed his schooling from Copland School in Wembley, North West London. He was charged for a common assault on a woman on 20th May 2013 which was later dropped as the witnessed failed to appear during the trial. Sterling was again arrested for another assault on his former model girlfriend Shana Ann Rose Halliday just three months later on 8th August 2013. He was found not guilty after Shana unable to give proper evidence at Liverpool Magistrates Court on 20th September 2013. Sterling has one daughter after a brief relationship. His daughter Melody Rose Sterling was born in 2012.
Sterling’s current net worth stands at $39 million which includes $11 Million yearly salary. He currently gets $85,107 weekly salary from Manchester City. Besides salary, Sterling has $26.9 Million worth of personal investments. He is an avid car fan and currently houses 6 luxury cars valued more than $4.2 Million in total. Sterling bought a luxury mansion in London in 2011 which is currently valued more than $2.2 Million and is one of the best mansions of Catford, a district of south east London. He signed an endorsement deal with American sports giant Nike in 2012 and modeled for their new Nike Mercurial Vapor IX boot in January 2013.
